Public Mail Lists of Interest to Listowners and Managers

- GNA-VC --
The Virtual Community Mailing List (gna-vc) was established in 1996 as a forum for discussion and news about
online life and community, the technologies that support them, ways and methods for their organization and design, and
their social effects. gna-vc is a discussion list for people participating in virtual communities, or are interested in their design, the technology that supports them, or their social impications. Topics appropriate for discussion include:
technology that supports virtual communities: MUD programming, irc bots, etc); research on new technologies that might support such communities in the future;
online life and society: legal problems, access, NII etc; educational uses of virtual community technology; community networks; business uses of virtual community technology and GNA as a virtual community.

is for discussions of issues related to managing Internet mailing lists, including (but not
limited to) methods, mechanisms, techniques, policies, and software (in general; questions about specific software
packages should be directed to the mailing list dedicated to that particular package).
Technical questions regarding particular software packages (for instance, Majordomo, LISTPROC, ListServ, etc.)
are not appropriate for the List-Managers mailing list. They should be directed to the mailing list dedicated to that

- LIST-MODERATORS --
List-Moderators is an open, unmoderated discussion list for the benefit of
list-moderators. It is a gathering place for list-moderators to share
their experiences and wisdom, and for newly appointed list-moderators to
learn the trade. Discussions which would be on topic include techniques and tools to assist
moderation, how to deal with troublesome posters, encouraging a particular
list culture without appearing too authoritarian, how to spot posters
attempting to use and abuse the system, text-layout styles for
newsletters, etc. To subscribe to List-Moderators send the following command in the message body of an email to
