"... there was a study by the National Center for Health Statistics that used 450 polio survivor respondents. This gave us a lot of information about the prevalence of polio in our population. It was a very comprehensive and valuable study. With the Internet we have come together in a way that makes it possible to study even more people with the varied late affects of polio.""The goal of this questionnaire is to gather information about the effects of Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS) in the hope that it may help to shed some light on possible causes and provide better direction for managing this condition. It was prepared by Edward Bollenbach, M.A., and Marcia Falconer, Ph.D., who themselves have PPS as well as having graduate degrees in biology. " --From the survey"If you agree, of have agreed, to do this survey, which will take about 20 minutes and can be done in bits -- one sitting is not necessary--- I promise you that this information will never be used for any purpose other than clarifying information on Post-Polio Syndrome. Individual questionnaires are confidential and will never be divulged anywhere to anyone. This study is also unique because both of the authors are dealing with Post-Polio Syndrome themselves. This was a help in deciding which questions to ask because both of us have dealt with the pain and problems associated with PPS."
"It is possible that something significant and new may be uncovered. If this happens wouldn't it be neat if we in the polio community found it ourselves?" -Eddie Bollenbach
