Subscriber Email Program Problems

Some providers use one email address to send email and another for receiving email. You may have to change what your email program sends as FROM or set up two subscriptions, one for sending set to NOMAIL and one for receiving set to MAIL. Listserv does not seem to recognize Reply-To in messages, only the FROM field when determining if the sender is authorized to send a command or post. But it is worth trying to set the replyto field in email programs to see if that will make a difference, sometimes it seems to. Go to each email program's link for howto on changing replyto.

If you get an error message simular to: "REQUESTED MAIL ACTION ABORTED: TOO MANY BODY PARTS" check to see if the subscriber is set to HTML DIGEST and if so, s/he may need to either set MIME and DIGEST NOHTML or check to see if s/he can reset the attachment limit for his/her email program.

ISO 8859-1 or other character set
This is identified in the mail header under the Content-Type line similar to:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

To correct this, change your default character set from ISO 8859-1 to US ASCII: For Windows 95 do the following:

  1. In Control Panel, double-click Mail And Fax.
  2. Click Internet Mail, and then click Properties
  3. On the General tab, click Message Format,
  4. then click Character Set.
  5. Change the option from ISO 8859-1 to US ASCII, or click the "Use MIME when sending messages" check box to clear it.
