An Example of Adding LISTSERV© List Extra Files
|
I am going to add the following files for a list I co-own named PLAY-LIST: not a real list ;-)
- PLAY-LIST.RULES
I want this file to be GETable by subscribers only and PUTable by owners
- PLAY-LIST.CHARTER
I want this file to be GETable by anyone and PUTable by owners
- PLAY-LIST.PRIMARY
I want this file to be GETable by owners only and PUTable by only me
First, I sent the GET PLAY-LIST CATALOG command and received the following:
Date sent: Fri, 25 Sep 1998 13:03:03 -0400
From: "L-Soft list server @ Listserv Place (1.8c)" <LISTSERV@LISTSERV DOMAIN>
Subject: File: "LISTNAME CATALOG"
To: Me <my1@address.COM>
|
* To retrieve files send the following command to
* listserv@that.domain
* GET FILENAME
* ie: GET PLAY-LIST.FAQ
*
* To retrieve archives send the following command to
* listserv@that.domain
* GET PLAY-LIST LOGYYMM
* ie: GET PLAY-LIST LOG9801
*
PLAY-LIST.FAQ PLAY-LIST.FAQ PRIVATE(PLAY-LIST) OWNER(PLAY-LIST)
| |
Then, I edited my list's catalog by adding the new files I want to make available and PUT the edited catalog by sending the following to my listserv host's command address:
Date sent: Fri, 25 Sep 1998 13:03:03 -0400
From: Me <my1@address.COM>
Subject: anything here
To: LISTSERV@LISTSERV DOMAIN;
CC: Not a bad idea to send a copy to yourself
|
PUT PLAY-LIST.CATALOG PW=xxxxxx
* To retrieve files send the following command to
* listserv@that.domain
* GET FILENAME
* ie: GET PLAY-LIST.FAQ
*
* To retrieve archives send the following command to
* listserv@that.domain
* GET PLAY-LIST LOGYYMM
* ie: GET PLAY-LIST LOG9801
*

PLAY-LIST.RULES PLAY-LIST.RULES PRIVATE(PLAY-LIST) OWNER(PLAY-LIST)
PLAY-LIST.CHARTER PLAY-LIST.CHARTER ALL OWNER(PLAY-LIST)
PLAY-LIST.PRIMARY PLAY-LIST.PRIMARY OWNER(PLAY-LIST) my1@address.COM,me@web.com
| |
Note: on the last file, which I want to have PUTable by only me, I used two addresses, my usual address and a free web-based email address I got in case my provider goes down. A good safety feature to use in both your list's header and here.
After I received confirmation from LISTSERV that my catalog has been successfully PUT,
I created and PUT each of the three files by sending emails like the following to my LISTERV command address:
Date sent: Fri, 25 Sep 1998 13:03:03 -0400
From: Me <my1@address.COM>
Subject: anything here
To: LISTSERV@LISTSERV DOMAIN;
CC: Not a bad idea to send a copy to yourself
|
PUT PLAY-LIST.RULES PW=xxxxxx
Follows are the rules for the Play-List email list. If you find you are unable to abide by these rules, please unsubscribe from
Play-List now.

Once I received confirmation from Listserv that the files have been successfully PUT, they can be retrieved by sending the
GET FILE.NAME command to the listserv command address.
After I PUT the edited PLAY-LIST CATALOG and the new files, subscribers and owners sending the
INDEX PLAY-LIST command will receive an email similar to the following:
Date sent: Fri, 25 Sep 1998 13:03:03 -0400
